The Elder Scrolls Online Gets A Visual Upgrade On New-Gen Consoles This Month

Back in June, you may recall that The Elder Scrolls Online: Console Enhanced was brought to Xbox Series X|S and Playstation 5, offering players significant graphical improvements and performance updates as a free update for existing PS4 and Xbox One players.

However, some were disappointed those visual improvements didn't go further, but Bethesda's now seeking to rectify that. Outlined within a recent blog post, Update 31's bringing over several graphics features previously exclusive to ESO's PC edition, launching on August 31st.

Advising their most important goal for ESO: Console Enhanced initially was hitting 60fps for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, they'd previously used 1440p resolution on Series X and PS5 (1080p on Series S) but now, they're implementing Dynamic Resolution Scaling within performance mode. As such, that'll scale between 1080p/4K on Series X and PS5, while Series S targets 1080p and 1440p

Additionally, a new "hue-preserving HDR mode" also arrives in Update 31, said to take advantage of the increased range, though the existing HDR mode remains an option. Finally, for PC players, ESO's implementing a multithreaded rendering beta via an opt-in, advising this "should improve your frame rate."
